Absent Members:  Karen Boutin, Cathy Drouin

IV.     Elderly Commission:

A)      Member Updates:

Ms. Burns reminded those present that there remains an open seat on the committee (Republican affiliation).  Ms. Badstubner has reviewed the voting list and is continuing to search for a candidate.  Ms. Burns will ask Laura at the Senior Center to make a general announcement (no mention of affiliation) regarding the opening on the Elderly Commission and that anyone who may be interested can call the First Selectman’s office.

B)      On-going Business:

1.      Cell Phone Program-  Ms. Drouin to update commission at the October meeting regarding High School and Scout participation.
2.      Senior Center- Ms. Burns will have current statistics to report at the October meeting.

C)      New Business:

Ms. Burns passed out copies of surveys that the Enfield Senior Center has utilized.  She suggested that the committee review them and consider developing a similar survey(s) for East Windsor.  Members received copies of the “Senior Center Survey” and  “Triad Safety Survey”.  Ms. Burns will mail copies out to the absent committee members.

Regarding the Safety Survey, Ms. Badstubner suggested inviting someone from each of the relevant groups (i.e. police, fire, ambulance) come to a meeting to speak when this project develops further.

Ms. Burns suggested that the Elderly Commission could “sponsor” a program regarding safety issues for the seniors and that the committee & relevant groups could plan to meet every other month to discuss issues as related to the town’s seniors.

The topic of surveys will be further discussed at the next meeting with all committee members deciding on the direction that the commission will take in relation to the senior center and safety issues.

V.  Adjournment:

12:25 pm by Chairman Claire Badstubner

Respectfully Submitted,

Christine Pellegrini
